  • Overview

    Track Supervisors are responsible for managing the operations of an assigned territory that involves track inspections and repairs to include replacing rails, ties, switches and ballast.


    • Manage engineering operations as outlined in FEC’s operating plan
    • Supervise and manage the activities of track gangs, track inspectors, and hyrail operations
    • Manage engineering operations which includes compliance with safe work procedures, FRA guidelines, and FEC policies and procedures
    • Lead people with clear direction and goals while providing coaching and guidance to employees through regular monitoring of employee performance
    • Apply collective bargaining agreements and policies while carrying out duties, including managing and coaching employees, conducting investigations, recommending corrective action and responding to grievances
    • Manage budgets and workforce productivity within FEC policy
    • Provide clear communication of track condition, daily production and information to senior management in order to make adjustments as needed
    • Participate in activities related to derailments and disruptions in service, while working with transportation and mechanical to determine cause and future prevention
    • Enforce safe work procedures and policies
    • Other duties or tasks as assigned by manager


    • Work hours may vary in length and schedule (this is primarily a night shift position)
    • Combination of office work and working outdoors in varying weather and environmental conditions
    • Working in a shared corridor of passenger and freight operations with limited track time windows
    • Successfully completion of a background check, physical and drug screen prior to start date
    • Respond to unexpected or emergency situations
    • Lift up to 80lbs
    • 10% travel required


    • High School diploma or GED
    • Relevant work experience in similar working conditions or regulatory / safety environment
    • Must be 18 years of age
    • Valid driver’s license
    • Demonstrate history / experience in safety compliance
    • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve

    • At least 5 years combined experience as a Track Foreman supervising maintenance gangs
    • Experience managing budgets
    • Previous experience supervising a unionized workforce
    • Labor relations experience, i.e. interpretation of collective bargaining agreements, response to grievances, negotiations with union representatives, discipline, etc.
    • Training or certification in Railroad Operating Signals
    • Post-secondary education

    • Understand and apply safety standards, policies and procedures, collective bargaining agreements as well as operating rules
    • Ability to be decisive and exercise good judgment
    • Knowledge of rail operations and physical infrastructure
