Overview

The Track Testing Specialist will support the Infrastructure department's efforts to improve safety, increase network capacity, and advance efficiency by managing FEC’s automated track measurement systems and infrastructure management tools.

Responsibilities

  • Maximize using infrastructure management tools to organize and visualize data for team members at all levels within the Infrastructure department.
  • Process and analyze defect data produced by automated inspection vehicles. 
  • Provide agreement and non-agreement employees training for the infrastructure management tool.
  • Craft internal processes to identify and prioritize locations for proactive maintenance and capital projects to maximize network availability.
  • Coordinate movement of test cars with dispatch and transportation departments to meet FRA regulations and internal standards.
  • Evaluate new technologies and providers to ensure FEC uses the appropriate tools to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Engages with FRA and partners to support research initiatives.
  • Work with other departments in FEC operations to support their goals to improve safety and efficiency.
  • Review and update processes for equipment calibration and perform calibrations accordingly.
  • Execute field audits to verify accurate and precise data from all relevant sources.
  • Provide project management for test car upgrades and coordinate maintenance with FEC Mechanical.

Qualifications

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Work hours may vary in length and schedule.
  • Combination of office and field work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
  • Enforce safe work procedures and policies.
  • Respond to unexpected emergencies.
  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
  • Up to 40% travel required.

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three to five years of experience in the railroad industry.
  • Valid driver’s license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in maintenance on a class six railroad
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Experience with automated railway testing systems
  • Experience with railway infrastructure management tools
  • Adapts rapidly to changing circumstances and manages stressful situations.

  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Excellent leadership skills: ability to manage, mentor and coach.
  • Result-focused; gives clear directions and prioritizes daily tasks.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Understand and apply safety standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Knowledge of rail operations and physical infrastructure
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office with capacity to learn other software and skills as needed.
