Overview

Responsible for the maintenance and procurement of the company’s train control electronic systems, computer aided dispatch centers, data network infrastructure and wireless communications network.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Supervises the installation, inspection, test and maintenance of Defect Detectors, AEI (Automatic Equipment Identification) readers, Radio and Telecommunication services for the FECR Signal system
  • Provide system support for the Computer Aided Dispatch System to include The Radio Code Line and Mobile Radio Dispatch
  • Provide network support services for the data network currently operational on the property
  • Procure wireless services such as cellular and paging for the FECR system
  • Provides technical assistance and training for subordinate employees
  • Handle administrative duties as assigned by the Director Telecommunications
  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
  • Participate in group discussions including unit meetings, job briefings, safety meetings or process reviews
  • Assisting other employees when and where instructed

Qualifications

 

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • At least 5 years of signal maintenance and signal communication work experience
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate’s degree (AA) from a Technical College with an emphasis in Electronics
  • Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field of study
  • 5 or more years of signal maintenance and signal communication work experience
  • Supervisory experience to include: training, planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance, addressing complaints and resolving problems
  • Commercial Driver’s License

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications--both general and technical)
  • Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
  • Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)
  • Mathematical skills to include: probability and statistical inference, fundamentals of plane and solid geometry, trigo­nometry, fractions, percentages and ratios
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Microsoft Office

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Heavy work, lifting up to 100 pounds
  • Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis
