Overview

Operates traveling overhead crane or sideloader to lift, move, and position loads of trailers or containers on and off railroad cars by performing the following duties.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Responsible for the daily operation of the overhead or sideloader crane while loading and unloading containers and trailers to railcars. This will include locking and unlocking container chassis, trailer hitches, IBC’s and bolsters.
• Observes load hookup and determines safety of load.
• Manipulates or depresses crane or sideloader controls, such as pedals, levers, and buttons, to regulate speed and direction of crane or sideloader and hoist movement.
• Uses hoisting attachments as load requires.
• Cleans and maintains crane and hoisting mechanism.
• Ensure all safety equipment is operating properly, including the location and condition of the fire extinguisher.
• Perform daily inspections to verify conditions of crane, tires, oil levels / leaks, hydraulics, lights, flashers, radio, and camera for defective parts and notifies supervisor of defects or malfunctions.
• Be aware of your surroundings when operating loading equipment to ensure all processes are followed to maintain a safe and injury free work environment.
• Ability to verify container, chassis, and trailer numbers accurately.
• Ensure clear communication is met with Ground Person and / or other personnel.
• Responsible for the compliance under HAZMAT and OSHA Regulations.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS / EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
• High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one year's related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• A valid Driver’s License
• Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively be¬fore groups of customers or employees of organization.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions and is regularly exposed to vibration. The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and risk of electrical shock.

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
