Overview

The Signal Inspector is responsible for testing, inspecting, installing and repairing systems, apparatus, and components of railroad signaling systems, highway traffic control devices and railroad electronic equipment.

 

Dania, FL

 

0800-1700 Monday - Friday

 

The starting pay rate is $36.35 per hour, with an increase to the full rate of $47.77 per hour upon qualification.

Responsibilities

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA)
  • Participate in group discussions including unit meetings, job briefings, safety meetings or process reviews
  • Interpret project plans, circuits, layouts, installation methods and communicating on a daily basis with the contractor
  • Reviewing contractor submittals for constructability and compliance to contract
  • Prepare inspectors' daily reports and other project related reports
  • Assist in preparing field change orders, or directives
  • Assisting other employees when and where instructed

Qualifications

 MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Two-year certificate from college or technical school in Electrical field
  • At least 5 years of experience in a Railroad Signal position
  • Must have a valid driver’s license

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 5 years of experience in a Railroad Signal position
  • Commercial Driver’s License

 

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Verbal comprehension (Understand oral and written communications--both general and technical)
  • Communication skills (provide clear instructions/directions)
  • Reasoning skills (problem solving and troubleshooting skills)
  • Basic Math
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Heavy work, lifting up to 60 pounds
  • Stoop/bend/kneel/crouch/balance/climb on an occasional basis
  • Demonstrate auditory and visual acuity/tracking/inspection
  • Climb ladders and poles up to at least 40 feet to make repairs, tests and installations
  • Walking over uneven terrain and getting on and off equipment
  • Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work

 

EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:

  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) must be obtained immediately upon being hired
  • Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
  • Wear protective equipment including hearing protection, safety-toe boots, hard hat and safety glasses
  • Work hours may include a nonstandard workweek, overtime, and various shift work
  • Complete annual training and pass safety rules examination
  • Federal regulations require random testing for drugs and/or alcohol
  • Must pass all required assessments
  • Must pass a background screening
  • This position is governed by a collective bargaining agreement, membership is required
  • Must pass a post-offer medical examination, including drug and physical capabilities
  • Must successfully complete probationary period
  • Regional travel required and may require 100% travel away from home

 

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

  • Work outside in all weather conditions and on occasion at elevated heights
  • Work safely to prevent on the job accidents and injuries
